Charles W. Dunne

Charles W. Dunne is a Nonresident Fellow at Arab Center Washington DC (ACW). He was a US diplomat for 24 years, with tours in Cairo, Jerusalem, and Madras, India. He served as Director of Middle East and North Africa programs at Freedom House (2011-2015). During his government career, he was Foreign Policy Adviser to the Director for Strategic Plans and Policy at the Joint Staff in the Pentagon (2007-2008), and Director for Iraq at the National Security Council (2005-2007). He was chief Middle East expert in Secretary of State Colin Powell’s Policy Planning Staff. Dunne holds an MA in Arab Studies from the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, Georgetown University.
