Arab Center Washington DC (ACW) is seeking a Social Media Specialist to join our team and help shape ACW’s social media presence, engage with our audience, and promote our mission of furthering the political, economic, and social understanding of the Arab world in the United States. The Social Media Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to best utilize various social media platforms to promote the work of ACW, create and publish dynamic and compelling content, and increase engagements and audience reach.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and execute social media strategies: Create and implement effective social media strategies aligned with the center’s objectives, including content, marketing, and engagement strategies.
  • Content creation: Generate high-quality written and visual content that educates, informs, and resonates with our target audience, including adapted content based on the center’s papers, events, and multimedia, as well as original content based on trending and timely subjects.
  • Platform management: Manage, maintain, develop, and optimize ACW’s social media accounts and presence across various platforms (X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.) by regularly posting content, responding to comments, and engaging with followers.
  • Campaigns: Develop and manage paid and unpaid campaigns across social media channels and content formats to communicate and promote ACW’s projects.
  • Analytics and performance: Proactively monitor social media metrics, define and track key performance indicators, and provide regular reports and recommendations for increasing traffic, growth, and engagement performance.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with ACW’s communications team, fellows, and staff to increase the center’s digital footprint and impact across social media platforms.
  • Consultation: Serve as a resource for ACW on the use of social media channels and digital trends.
  • Reporting: Keep the Communications Director and senior management informed with detailed and regular reports, presentations, and communication.
  • Other administrative and logistical tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in designing and implementing social media and digital strategies, preferably within a policy-focused context. A proven track record of setting and achieving social media goals.
  • Education: Minimum undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as journalism, communications, marketing, or Middle East studies. A graduate degree is preferred.
  • Experience with design tools and software: Some experience with design software/tools used to generate social media content is strongly desired, such as Adobe Suite or similar design tools.
  • Knowledge of Arab world affairs: Familiarity with the political, cultural, and historical dynamics of the Arab world region.
  • Latest tech trends: Strong up-to-date knowledge of digital technologies and social media trends.
  • Excellent communication skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information concisely. Public speaking skills and on-camera presence are strongly preferred.
  • Creativity: Creative mindset and graphic design aesthetics are a plus.
  • Language: Strong English language proficiency and basic proficiency in Arabic are preferred but not required.
  • Management: Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
